ADSL & Red Hat Linux 9

I installed a completely new Red Hat Linux 9 system which boots up into the graphical interface.

This system is on a LAN with 2 other PCs that run Windows (XP & 2000). Each of these have their own internal fixed IP address of the type: 192.168.xxx.xxx. The Linux box also has a static IP assigned of the type 192.168.xxx.xxx.

From the Linux box I can ping the 2 Windows PCs if I use their 192.168.xxx.xxx IPs.

Both the Windows PCs are connected to the Internet through an ADSL connection. If I try to ping these 2 Windows PCs from the Linux box using the Windows PCs ISP assigned dynamic IPs (216.113.xxx.xxx) I do not get a response; this leads me to believe that the Linux box is not connected to the Internet.

Using the "Network Configuration" tool I set up an ADSL connection on the Linux box. I assigned the static IP address provided by my ISP (208.181.164.164), entered a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0 and the Default Gateway Address provided by my ISP. On the "DNS" tab of the "Network Configuration" tool I did not assign the Primary & Secondary DNS. After finishing the setup I activated it. and it showed up as "Active". I now looked at the "DNS tab of the "Network Configuration" tool and found that my ISPs Primary and Secondary DNS IP addresses had appeared. I compared them with the same on the 2 Windows PCs and verified that these are correct. So I suppose I can conclude that the Linux box must have connected to my ISP and obtained these IP addresses.

I also looked at the System Monitor tool which showed that the "pppd" and "pppoe" processes were running.

However, I am unable to access the internet. Moreover any other computer on the internet is unable to ping this Linux box. (My friend tried to ping the Linux box from across town and did not receive a response.)

Could anyone help me find out what the problem might be.

Thanks

Thanks.

I guess I should have tried it earlier. I re-installed RH 9 and everythings fine now.
