Adding WindowsXP Professional to a Samba3 domain.(password problem)

I use SuSE 9.1 distribution and I managed to add a windows98 client
to the samba3 domain but when i try to add windows XP by right clicking
on my computer -> properties -> computer name then change from workgroup(which has the same domain name ) to domain it prompts me
to enter user name and a password I type root and the password and i recieve this message
Logon failure :unknown username or bad password

Note:I did add root to the smbpasswd file (smbpasswd -a root) then restarted rcsmb and rcnmb

Is there is something that I didn't do????
