Adding a printer

I'm new on a LAN, running Slackware 9.0 and the main computer on the LAN is running Windows, can anyone tell me how to put the printer on the network so I can use it as well? Do I need cat5 going from the router to the printer as well?

It would depend on the type of printer if the printer hs an inbuilt JetDirect card or you have a JetDirect server then you can connect it directly to the lan. If you don't then you will need to connect the printer directly to one of the PCs and share it using the smb protocol.
