Hi there I have 2 pcs in my house.
A)This pc has linux installed with samba B)This pc has windows98 installed with a hewlet packard printer I want to share the client s (Computer B) using samba ..how can i do that? |
1) Share the printer in Windows
2) Configure the printer on Linux How you do 2 depends on your distro and gui if you use one. |
aaaaaaaaa
I am using the swat.
I am trying to configure the printer but i cannot...... |
Swat is only used to configure the samba server.
Have you shared the printer on Windows? What distro are you using? Are you using a gui? |
xmm...
Yep the printer is already shared in w98.
What a distro is? Suse 8.1 |
Load the YAST printer config tool. Followt the onscreen instructions - add the printer as an smb printer then specify the host/printer name and the credentials you want to connect with.
|
aaaaaaaa
From Yast i choose SMB Printing
Host name of the printer server, here i write the ip of w98 machine then i enter the printer name and i press the test remote smb access and i take the following message session request to SMBSERVER failed |
Are your machines networked OK? Can you see file shares from windows on linux?
|
Yep yep
and i can do everything with them
|
That's odd.
Did you specify it as: //ipaddress/ or just ipaddress |
xm...
Like
//Perasma (perasma is computer name) I also tried this ipaddress |
The fields should be as follows (no slashes etc):
1) The ip address 2) The name of the share 3) The username 4) The password |
aaaaaaaa
In windows 98 i dont have any password and username so what i must write in the fields?
|
Use what do you use when you login to the machine at the "Client for Microsoft Networks" prompt.
