ACX100 drivers wont compile in RH9
i have a laptop running redhat 9 kernel 2.4.20-8 and im trying to get the Dlink 650+ wireless card to work. I have heard of people getting it to work with the acx100 driver but when I do "make", which is the first step on many of the instructions i have read, I get like a thousand compile errors. I can program a little but their are way to many errors to fix. If any body can give any input to help me out it would be great. I'm not that new to linux but maybe i am forgetting something simple.
thanks in advance.
... I don't know much about compiling but maybe there is already a pre-compiled module for your card, at houseofcraig's page - I ahven't looked at it but he has already precompiled modules for redhat to download. (if you go to the acx100 homepage at sourceforge, go to the links section or external resources and check out the detailed newbie howto, that are craig's pages really good docu.)
I hope this helps you alittle wish I could help more, but it's astart
Distribution: I use gentoo, redhat, and lorma for kicks.

well i am kind of a noob myself but It sounds like you might need to install or update gcc (gnome compiler collection). the quickest and most painless way to do this is to go to www.freshrpms.net and get a program called apt, and a program called synaptic (the graphical version of apt). if you download the i386.rpm and install those (rpm -ihv apt.i386.rpm and synaptic.i386.rpm) your GOLDEN when it comes to updating packages. apt is debian's package management system that downloads and installs the packages and it's dependancies for you. it has been compiled from source to work for redhat and packaged as an rpm.
after you get both of those installed you can type "synaptic" in the command line, or find it's icon in the system tools section to load the grapical user interface for it. once the GUI loads you can click "update list" (the first button whatever it is called) to update your respository list. this is critical because you won't be able see the packages it offers without doing this.
once you have your list updated, you can update all your packages to the newest version available in redhat 9 just by searching for them. I would recommend searching for "gcc" "gtk" and "glade" and make sure these are installed and/or updated.
you might have allready done all this, but this is the best solution i can think of...sorry if it shows my newbiness off too much
whoops... well at least when you insert it it searches for the device... I think, remember I am not an expert too :-), but doesn't find it, do you have the pcmcia-cs and hotplug packages installed? If i where you I would do the following:
1. do as bencl5 mentioned, get apt-get and synaptic running.
2. upgrade your system with synaptic, download and install the above mentioned packages as well if you don't have them (that is "pcmcia-cs" and "hotplug", just find and install them with synaptic :-) ) once these services are running I hope your card get's recognized! try and do the insmod module you downloaded if it works: cool!
3. otherwise you need to compile it indeed and that means updating your gcc stuff and other things as mentioned by bencl5
goodluck I hope it helps you in one way or another
