Accessing linux PC from Xp with Samba

I have a pc running Kubuntu 6.10 with Samba,I can access files on the windows machine but I cannot access files on the linux machine from windows,I get a dialogue box wanting a username and password.
Whatever I type in it won't accept it,I hadn't even entered a username and password when cnfiguring Samba. I tried entering them on the Linux pc but entering the same on the xp box gets refused.....Any ideas?
I had a look in the user permissions but there is no option to add a samba user.
I tried to add a user in the samba configuration but it's set to allow all users so I left it,as I am the only user. I did notice "root" was not allowed though, which shouldnt matter as I run as user.
Many thanks to anyone who answers.

I had this same problem connecting to OS X. All I did was leave the user name and password blank and it connected right away. I was able to send files back and forth from either machine. Hope this helps.
