Accessing External HDD on XPPro via Network

I'm currently using DSL (damnsmalllinux) on an old IBMThinpad and the USB ports don't function. I need files from my external HDD, which I've plugged into a desktop, to my laptop via the network.

Space isn't an issue when downloading applications, I might need help installing the application though.

I have very little linux experience and will probably need my hand held through this, sorry.

Hi WWoody, Welcome to lq. A couple of questions, has the drive been shared from the desktop machine? Have you installed the samba packages for your distribution?

Assuming yes answers to both questions you should be able to find the rest of what you need at one of these links.

Good luck. ;-)
