About nobody user

Im using a newbie in Linux and now im using Red hat 7.3, i have tried setting up my samba server for practice.

I guess there is no problem with my sharing, the problem is when i create a file or something in my shared folder using my account ray in linux it display the ownership as nobody instead my account.. Btw, i have already created the user ray in linux and samba with the same password in my windows..

What do you think is the problem.. \
Thank you..

Is there any reason why you are using Redhat 7.3. This is positively ancient now. I strongly recommend that you upgrade to a recent version of Linux, such as Fedora Core 6 or Ubuntu.

You may find that your problem with Samba is solved by upgrading.

Cool

To change the ownership YOU need to have "root" privileges. If the account was mistakenly setup as root during the first boot, it may revert back to the position of not identifying the new user. When YOU installed the Distro, did YOU set up user before or after setting up the administrator account? Or did YOU inherit this system from a relative, friend or associate? Thereby not having actually installed the Distro YOURSELF. If YOU are in a position to reinstall, it may solve YOUR problems. There are available Ubuntu CD-ROM's for free, with the shipping for free, if YOU would like to venture into a more current Distro that works sweetly. Or for small change I totally recommend www.OSDisc.com for highest quality CD-ROM's.
