A postfix (cant find recevied mail) and apache 2 question (first page wont display).

Thank you for help in advance.

I have two qusetions

1. I can send mail with postfix server. But i cant recive any. What might i have done wrong here. I belive i ahve all the right settings but there always room for error. So if you know of any tutorials that might be helpful or you have had the same problem. Please feel free to give some assistances.

2. I have apache 2 up and running on a fedora core 2 box but when i go to the website the inti
index page is no where to be fond theres only an untitled page. So in other words you have to type (website address).com/index.html to get the index page and you cant just simply go (website address).com and get the int. page. Is there something i have to delete or change? Or am i naming the pages worng?

Any help on either of the questions will be very helpful.

Thanks Again
caper

p.s if i didnt put enough up here tell me and ill put what ever stuff you need up here.

For question 2, check your httpd.conf file, there's a reference in there for default pages or something like that, make sure index.html is in the list,

When you say you can't receive mail, do you mean you can't pop in with a mail client? or your mailboxes are growing but you can't access the files?

1st off: read the logs 'tail -f /var/log/messages' when sending an email to your box, post them here,
2nd: If you can't pop in using pop3 try installing qpopper (easiest install) or courier_imap (more difficult but much more customizable.

I can see the mail in the counsol and in the folder which is /var/spool/mail/ And it is receiving outside mail. The porblem comes in when i try to get a mail program to read it. And when i try to check it from the outside world.
(im at work right now so i cant post the log for you i will try when i get home). Any recomendations of what i should do? I think im just setting up something wrong in the mta or the e-mail program.
thanks

I'm assuming your attempting to receive via pop3?

How have you setup local delivery?

The problems probably somewhere in the way your delivering the mail to the users mailbox, I would double check that.

So the mail dissapears as soon as you try and pull any in? have you checked your postmaster account?

Are you running qpopper or courier_imap?

I have all the mail for root delivered to my usr account. There really is no other addresses other then that. Hmm.... I think your right about the delivery at the local level how would you set it up. (pop3 included). Any documents you know of that are helpful? I belive other then the delivery thing the mail server as a whole works.

I got the apache problem fixed; it ended up i had an extra index with differnt extensions in the same directory.
Thanks for the help

SMTP server is not used for reading your e-mail remotely. It only receives e-mail and stores it in /var/spool/mail.
You need a pop3 or imap server to actually be able to use some e-mail client to fetch e-mail using pop3 or imap protocol.
Try installing a pop3 or imap server that comes with your distribution. I believe it will just work and you will be able to fetch your e-mail from outside the server.
