Hi--

I have a new computer, with an Intel 915gavl mobo, on which I have just installed red hat 9.0.

When I do ifconfig 192.168.0.106 up I get
eth0: unknown interface: No such device

Is this a known problem with this board? Is there a known solution?

My thought is to get a common ethernet card (like a 3c905c) and install it.

Any ideas?

OK, it looks like I need to have an e100 driver for this.


I downloaded one of the .tar.gz files from
http://smokeping.planetmirror.com/pu...rs/linux/e100/
and checked out the README. It refers to a modulue e100.o--and I already have one on the machine that came with the distro.

So I did insmod e100 and got
Using /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/kernel/drivers/net/e100/e100.o: Init_module: No such device

I got a similar message trying modprobe e100

It seems to want some parameters with this command and I don't know what to put on the command line.

On startup it shows success for the line "Bringing up interface eth0." And I see nothing in bios setup that would indicate that the nic is disabled (although I might not know what I should be looking for there).

Any ideas what is next? It seems I am so close....
