536ep modem problems

WARNING: Linux

I just installed the Intel v.90/v.92 internal PCI card and used the driver from Intel's website...though I seem to have a couple problems:

(I've verified that the problems are not that of the ISP, as I could connect to the isp under a different modem and under *shudder* Windows 2000)

First problem, the modem won't fully hang up, meaning that when it disconnects, I don't no dial-tone when I pick up the line after disconnecting.

Secondly, it connects at a slow 19k, instead of 30/40+k meaning the modem disconnects me. I'm using RH9 as my distro of choice. Any help is greatly appreciated.
