Question 3COM 3c920b-EMB hangs on shutdown

I have an asus a7n8x delux. The two on board ethernet adapters seem to work fine except as shutdown time. Then when the shutdown process gets to stopping the network interfaces the message 'stopping eth0 appears' and that's all she wrote. Have to hit the power button to shutdown. Same thing will happen if you try to deactive the eth0 device from network device control under X (it will hang, you can just kill the process to keep going).

Anyone have any ideas on why this might be happening? Remember the device works great except for the shutdown problem.

Thanks .....

ok .. i found it !

Here was the problem. In /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts I have ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-eth1 for the 2 ethernet cards. Somehow (I have not figured this out yet) both config files had the same mac address in them. This in turn causes the script ifdown to go into an endless loop by calling itself over and over again. This is a bit of a bug in the script, but the root problem was duplicate mac address (even though one ethernet adapter was inactive) in the ifcfg-* files.
