Unhappy 2 NICs

Another newbie trying hard to get this linux stuff going.
This is the question to anyone who can help me:

Redhat 9 with two nics:

eth1:
10.1.1.1
this is un-trusted and connected via a cross cable to a router with ip 10.1.1.254 which is connected to the internet.

eth0:
192.168.1.1 trusted, my LAN and connected to a single PC with ip 192.168.1.2

From the linux box i can browse the internet and ping ip's in the internet, no problem.

I can also ping the following ip's from the linux box:
10.1.1.1, 10.1.1.254, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2

From the PC (192.168.1.2) i can ping 192.168.1.1, and 10.1.1.1 which is the linux box, however i cant ping 10.1.1.254 (router) or anything on the internet.

The default gateway of the linux box is 10.1.1.254 which is the router.

I have killed all iptables stuff and there are no other firewalls running.

I have tried adding routes, changing default gateways on both 10.1.1.1 and 192.168.1.1 etc etc

please help
cheers,
Steve
