2 NIC MASQ'ing firewall failing at random times

Hi,

I've 2 NIC's (3-COM's, one 3c905B and one 3c905C) set up to do IP MASQ'ing as per the rc.firewall-2.4-stronger, posted in ipmasq-HOWTO-m.html. It works nicely for a while, occassionally a whole day (!). Sooner or later, though, the thing craps out. The computer is fine, no effect on the GUI or anything, only The Internet has disappeared. This is both from the master machine and all the hidden ones. A re-boot makes everything work fine again, until next time.

I don't know whether the IP MASQ'ing has anything to do with it or not, but I think it might, or else many more people would report this and RedHat would get on it.

The mobo is a vanilla Intel SE440BX from way back. The BIOS was updated to the last one Intel posted. There is a firewire card on the PCI bus as well, recognized ok by Kudzu. The OS is RedHat 9 and I used RedHat Network to grab updates frequently (since this started), nothing about networking has appeared for a while.

Any pointers greatfully appreciated.

Pat
