The only advantage I see is to get rid of that nasty Android OS.

It's not a phone, it's a Samsung Player.

Once it runs out of warranty I'll try something else, like Tizen.

interesting OS ottavio.

ATM im very happy with the performance and speed of my Nexus 4. I guess I should be a bit more specific in my question. I understand that if I root the phone i get 100% control over the OS, but are there any features, apps, etc... that I might be missing by NOT rooting my phone.

I am so new to the "smartphone" (never needed one until a few weeks ago due to work) is why I'm asking. sadly google only responds with HOWTO's and other guides, nothing as to WHY or WHY NOT.

I too have a Nexus 4, but have not rooted it. Although I have root my new ASUS TF300T tablet. There are several apps that require the phone/tablet to be rooted to work. A few examples that I have ran across are using a PS3 controller with the Sixaxis controller app, the fake GPS location app (which allows me to trick the NHL GCL app to not blackout games), enabling/disabling GPS using NFC and tasker.

Although in general most users do not have a need for rooting their phone. The main reason that I have not rooted my is that usually you can not do simple OTA update when they come available, or at the very least they will wipe out the root access and you will have to go through the root process again. One of the main reasons I got the Nexus 4 was so I could always be running the latest and greatest version of Android, at least for the next couple of years. Also I have my phone all setup the way I like and rooting it requires wiping the phone, so basally I am just lazy and I have not came across a good enough reason to spend the time to root it.
