sgh-a877 samsung impression

is it possible to switch to linux? i dont even know what OS it uses, it's proprietary. i have 8gb microsdhc in it. if it were possible to switch to linux, would it be possible to share my computer's DSL internet connection with the phone via the usb cable or a bluetooth dongle?
that would be awesome.
i am just wondering if it has been done and/or if anybody is working on it. i would be willing to test but i dont want to brick my phone lol.
i ask about the sharing my ethernet with my phone because i dont have a data plan but i like how the internet looks on my phone, i wanted to get the LG incite because it has WI-FI but didn't get it because you have to buy the stupid data plan if you want a good deal on the phone and if you get the dataplan it costs more in the long run than buying the phone with no contract, and just using wi-fi for the internet.
but this post is about the SHG-a877, samsung impression. anybody else got one?

I have one of these phones. It was what I replaced my tmobile shadow with after I washed and dryed it. Even tho the shadow still worked amazingly I was not on a contract and decided to get this one. The phone blows in my opinion. The lockout key is in the wrong place and way too recessed into the case and the memory for plain text messages is terrible. With a phone with a keyboard you would think they would have implemented more then a max of 500 messages saved. My shadow held every single message i ever sent and I bought it 3 years ago...

As far as Linux support I am not sure but I would guess not and most of the dev for phones right now is for the google stuff.

yeah it does kinda blow.
Upgrade: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ue&Order=PRICE
but what needs to be recessed into the case is the screen, i was so pissed when i scratched it because i was planning on getting a screen protector but whats the point once its scratched. if those bung-holes wouldnt put stupid pictures/writing all over the screen protector that comes on the phone, then i would still have it on there, and my screen would be pristine. scratches piss me off.
what really blows about it is the lack of wifi, and not implementing a little scroll-slider into the music library like you have in the contacts. their customer service sucks. they now have an 800mhz smartphone, the Jet, while i have a 166mhz pentium that is faster than the impression. I still like it, for the AMOLED and i've never had a touchscreen or full keyboard. getting your own apps on it and running is a bit complicated. to have such a nice display and a full keyboard, it should have wifi, or at least the option to do more than just fileshare via bluetooth. its really the phone's software thats the problem. it took me a long time to figure out how to even change my im ringtone, or find the missed calls.

but about that unlock button, if i am having trouble with that stupid button, i just slide out my keyboard a little bit, or all the way, depending on what i want to do with the phone.
sliding out the keyboard is faster than holding that button down.
but locking your screen is way too easy. its handy for when you actually want to lock out, but if you are doing something and hit the wrong button, instant screensaver.
with a screen and keyboard, it should really be more like a computer. i havent gotten to try out the internet, but the browser does look like it would make a good browsing experience, switching between pc and mobile internet mode. but my account is set up with the data-opt out. i am barred from doing anything involving data. mms, web, email, videoshare, gps. none of those functions are of any use to me, so i deleted them. thats probably why i can hold more text than you.
to do that, you're going to need TKFE, and to know the master codes. google'samsung impression forum' if you want to do that sort of thing, deleting locked apps, placing your own apps in their place and locking them, etc. i just wish iknew more about java, so i could write my own apps.
alright that is the first chapter of my book 'sir talks alot'
ubuntu just finished reinstalling so i turn this computer off and use that one now.
