nexus 7 choppy playback (Netflix)

Hi for some reason video playback is choppy while using Netflix.
When I use hbo go it is smooth.
I think it's because hbo go buffers for about 15 seconds and Netflix doesn't.
Is there a way to force the Netflix app to buffer or select a lower resolution ?

You can check the network path with traceroute, looking for long delays. Are you playing under windows or under wine/ie/silverlight? The latter approach is pushing your luck big time.

i'm playing it on the nexus (android) ?
i dont think that wine/ie/silverlight plays a role here.

i think that the bottleneck is my crappy wifi router. but my blu-ray player for example will take its time to buffer the appropriate amount before playback (sometimes up to 2 minutes) or select a lower definition stream... seems like the android app doesnt have that option (i think google was aiming for an instant playback feel (less than 1 second) but the choppyness makes me prefer waiting a few minutes.

The Nexus, under Android? That was vital information which puts me better in the picture. Android is a subset of linux (using busybox), but uses a cut down version. I have Android Jelly Bean (what a pathetic and stupid subtitle) and it has neither which, su or traceroute. I can't think of a straightforward way to reduce screen size, as that puts the load of resizing and/or multi-windowing on software probably not able for it.

Better do some data gathering. Do an isp test - Locally. Then try http://www.irishisptest.com If you navigate carefully, you don't have to register. I bet the test from further away will be slower. Post the figures, and we'll see how your network is. Then see if you can get the url. The ones I'm seeing here are registered in Ireland's digital hub (Beside the isp test!) and in Seattle.
