Listing of lesser known brands if high spec tablet
I would like to find out the lesser known but good value "geek-only" phones & tablets, as current mainstream offerings leave me cold.
I have heard of geek phone. One American geek of my acquaintance has a 'geek' invitation-only phone from the states. My son, who programs Apple Everything, ( & Android) occasionally recently got an android from 1+ for his private project. It's large screen, for only $279 or €279.
Where can I find who these small sellers are? (BTW spare invites also welcome)

as for geeksphone - why not order straight from their website?
i guess it doesn't really answer your question, but here's the list of phones able to run ubuntu phone: https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/star...vices/devices/
as you can see, there's the rather low-end bq, mid-level meizu and a few nexus devices.
Thanks.
My phone (a Samsung note 2) is elderly, but wearing well. It's a tablet I have to buy.
Geek phone & 1+ do phones only so far. Iwill check their site again. I just don't know who these guys are and wondered if they were any good. The phones seem to be.
2 of the nexus devices on the list i linked are tablets. just saying; i'm not pushing ubuntu on google devices. however, they have a good reputation, like "it's what google devs use" and receive more updates, afaiu.
I will check the specs/price offered my nexus options. I have become wary of google's all-pervasive snooping. My ideal would be a rootable system where Cyanogenmod could be loaded.
I haven't found that many tablets that AREN'T rootable. The problem is cyanogenmod doesn't support some of the lesser known tablets, so even after rooting, you're stuck just running a rooted version of the stock android due to no newer version having been made to work. So you might want to start with just looking up cyanogen's supported hardware, and just choose something from that list.
