Pages is not very compatible with Ms Office,
I prefer to use Libreoffice in OSX.
So how do you view and edit files on your iphone?
I'm running AndrOpenoffice and OpenDocument. With both those projects being the new killer app for me (I've pretty much given up on a good calendar app) I actually ordered myself a tablet.
What I mean is how do you open the OpenDocument files used by LibreOffice / Apache OpenOffice in IOS. Lasr I saw iwork doesn't support them so you have to convert the MSOffice format.
So there is a big issue with Apple/iOS and lack of apps.
I ran into an issue where I shared a document with someone else and I converted to docx first. Their AV scanner alerted a false positive that said it had a virus. No amount of explaining that I had simply converted from OpenOffice on a Linux box so it wasn't possible to have a Windows/Office virus could convince him, he insisted I sent him a virus. I won't save any of my work in MS format anymore, if someone wants it then they will have do download a decent Office package.
So there is one big reason to not support companies like Apple who don't support Open Source standards.

There is or is it just a lack of support for your chosen document format? About once a week a .pdf will trip the AV in our exchange servers that doesn't mean I'm going to stop using .pdf.
Lack of support for an industry standard format. Imagine if Apple didn't support pdf.
The bigger issue is Apple doesn't like to adhere to standards, they have become the new Microsoft in that respect.
Microsoft wanted to proprietize industry standards Apple picks and chooses which ones they'll follow which is most anymore. Apples problem is they threw their core customers under the bus, not once but twice since 2005. They did it in pursuit of people like you without the realization that you guys weren't coming over.
Well of course no one is coming over. Why pay tier 1 prices for tier 2 hardware and pay for an annoying UI on top of a Linux/BSD OS. I can buy the same hardware for half the cost, use a free OS and a DE that isn't annoying and I can change if I like. Buying anything apple doesn't make any sense no matter how you look at it.

It doesn't make sense to you and that's OK many like the Apple ecosystem.
