Install Linux (any distro) on HTC Touch Diamond
 

I have a HTC Touch Diamond (HTC P3700) phone which runs Windows Mobile 6.1. I would like to change its operating system to some linux distribution. I would like to know of there is a linux port to this platform and, if there is one, what is the procedure to install it. The specifications of this phone are on its Wikipedia page : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Touch_Diamond

I do not think that this will be an easy task. Although the linux kernel has been ported to the MSM7201 SoC in the HTC Touch Diamond, I doubt that there exists a distribution that let's you simply install a linux flavour on the mobile phone. It is possible in principle. I read that Google's Android distribution (whoever likes it) should run on the HTC Touch Diamond. Furthermore I found a video on Youtube, that shows a HTC Touch Diamond running Ubuntu using some program "Haret"

I cannot tell you if this linux is emulated on top of windows mobile or runs natively on the phone.

Anyway, I guess that the installation procedure will be very complicated and possibly will render your phone totally unusable. So be careful with the attempted to replace the firmware of your mobile device.

@irman: According to what I read here http://www.pedersen-web.com/linuxhan...x.php?h=2&p=11, HaRET is a sort of hybrid between an emulator and the real deal, and yes, that is the OP's phone in the video (same model anyway). So it is possible.

Thanks for your advice. Don't worry I'll do anything only if I am totally sure that the changes made are reversible (e.g. installing on to the mass storage and not to the ROM, etc.).
