Question dcf format

Hi all,

i recently brought a nokia 5130 xpress music mobile phone, the phone came with pre installed music files which are in the dcf format, i transferred these files to my ubuntu (jaunty) machine, but when I tried to play these files most of the media players were complaining , un recognized format

so my questions are as follows

1) is there any media player in ubuntu which can play dcf files ?
2) is there any converter ,in ubuntu, which can convert dcf files to mp3 format ?

I've never heard of dcf format, are you sure they are music files ? Can you run the 'file' command on them ?

Aha, I see, then I guess it's #2:

Quote:
File Type 2 DRM Content Format File
Popularity 3 stars Average
Category Audio Files
File Description Media file encoded with DRM (Digital Rights Management) copy-protection; used by some cell phones for saving protected ringtones, pictures, videos, and other media clips; similar to a .DM file, but the rights object, which allows the encrypted data to be played back, is contained in a separate file.

Because DCF files are saved in a protected or "locked" format, they can typically only be opened using an authorized DRM-compatible cell phone.
and you are out of luck. Sorry. Boycott DRM.
