Android G1 On CM-6.0: Memory problem

Hi All,

This is on AndroidQuestions for a few days now with little traffic so I'll try my luck here.

I have a HTC Dream (Branded Telefonica Movistar fromk Spain) = Rogers type 32A. As I look at it today, Settings/Applications?Running Services shows memory usage half way Red/Green (30MB used, 6+22MB free). It was rebooted 2 hours ago. As uptime increases, memory consumed increases, and after a few days, I get to the stage where opening a browser or Maps, or Navigation causes a memory issue, and it's just closed again. I did my best to minimize memory resident trash programs, it wasn't a solution. Any ideas/suggestions
1. How to improve garbage handling and give me my ram back?
2. How to allocate more space to ram, as I have a big SD card with basically no videos/"music" (Not wishing to offend anyone)

That is to be expected on the Dream. As the first Android device, it's hardware is now quite old and it really isn't up to the task of running modern Android variants. That is why CyanogenMod is no longer officially supporting it past CM6, and really many people advise sticking with CM5 for the Dream.

The only possible way to get "more" memory is to enable compcache or swap to SD. Both of these are explained on the CyanogenMod Wiki. It is interesting to note that the page even states that the only devices that would need these functions are ones like the Dream or Magic.

Thanks, and this looks right. Unfortunately I'm hitting issues.

1. The market won't download anything to my phone. I get the "downloading ..." but the progress bar never moves. I've had this issue for a while, but never needed it.
2. I have a Swap file formatted as the second partition on the sd card . No /etc/fstab or mtab :-O? I tried 'swapon -a' and it complained about fstab. I used to have both. The phone otherwise works fine, and I can access /sdcard & /sd-ext

I tried for adb and I get some stupid run around the circus maximus as apparently I have to have the entire development environment before I can play with little old adb >:-<.
I feel a reinstall coming on. I HATE reinstalls with a passion.
