Abount Android and which phone

Hello, i used to own a htc hd2 mobile. It ran window mobile 6.5, and although wasn't a popular mobile os, it was secretly awesome. The phone was stollen from me and i am considering buying a secondhand one or getting a new phone all together. In the last few month i've entered the linux world in computers and am loving it and am considering an Android operating phone instead despite it being created by google. I will not go to windows phone 7 which is a development turn from mobile 6.5 that doesn't suit me at all. I don't want an i phone so my decision comes down to a slightly old windows mobile 6.5 operating device or an android operating device. I'm not familiar with Android though so was hoping you guys could just throw in your oppinions on the os and also perhaps sujest a phone.
I was thoinking a phone similar to my last one. The main features i used were a good internet browser, (preferably one where you can zoom with finger movements like opera in my last phone) and also a phone that can act as a wireless access point. And all the other normal stuff.
Thanks for your help guys

I already came across a thread similar to this the other week, and I mentioned that I own the Nokia N900, and it is the best phone by far I have ever owned. It is a bit on the expensive side, but it has the Arm Cortex A8 processor, and has 32 GB of internal storage, along with a 5 MP Carl-Zeiss camera, and a front facing camera. Has a lot more features, but they are just the big ones. It runs Maemo 5, a port of debian, and it is a very stable OS. Just my two cents.

ok, can it act as a wireless access point, this is a very important feature to me, as i use it a fare bit.
Thanks for mentioning Maemo, i'd never heard of it and i find the idea of that more appealing than googles android but am still open to thoughts.

Forgot to mention, living in Australia must be Testra next g compatible, but doesn't have to be blue ticked. (sorry to all international readers who have know idea what this means)

Yes, it can act as a wireless access point. Has bluetooth, an FM transmitter and receiver, wireless, and IR. :)

To be clear guys! The N9 is CANCELED by Nokia! So you will NEVER see this phone ever. The first Meego phone will be the N950! Nokia said that it has a very cool design. I hope that the specs are great as well! :)
