I know that jay freeman already brought a way to use apt-get on the iphone with many other great linux related tools to the iphone but wouldnt it be great for us to dual boot or something with linux on the iphone. As probably everyone knows iphones have an arm processor and there are known exploits to "jailbreak" the phone and debian is ported to iphone i think it would be a fun thing if anyone was interested in maybe trying to figure how to put a whole distro on a phone or just an ipod and have power in there pocket cause no offence but apple and its patents suck.

Why not just get an Android phone?

The Motorola Droid is easily as powerful as the iPhone 3GS and has a physical keyboard, upgradable storage, user replaceable battery, standard USB port, etc. The only "advantage" the iPhone has over the Droid is the actual iPhone OS, and if you aren't looking to run that, then there is no reason to use the hardware.

That said, I am almost positive I saw a video of the kernel booting on an iPod Touch awhile back.

I actually have both a g1 the original and a iphone3gs. The androids keyboard is very nice but sauiks guide to the androids a little technical. Also i realized while using cyanogens mods on my g1 with a good amount of apps the phone runs very slowly. I formatted my sd card half fat and half ext and the apps to sd card app doesnt do that it just says i dont have a proper ext2 pArtition which i do (: if you know of maybe a better rom i should install on my g1 ill take it cause atm i got Anooyed and its just sitting there but i do really like the android and i wanna get debian on it working good.

The G1 isn't a very powerful phone, so you are always going to be limited to how many apps you can run and things like that.

That's why the Droid/Milestone are such a big deal, they are the first handsets with enough power to fully realize the potential of Android. Plus it doesn't hurt they are the only phones currently running the vastly improved Android 2.0.

i own a G1 and love the custom work that cyanogen has done. if you look it up, you can get debian to run on the G1. its a lil ugly but its a full distro running on your mobile. worth a look!

Doesn't debian already have an ARM processor port?

you can run Windows on an iPhone,then you can run the iPhone version of OS X on a Cray supercomputer.Then you can run the Cray OS on a Packard Bell 486.Then you can eat a pumpkin and sit in dirt.Perhaps you could run iPhone OS on your PS3 and hookup a touchscreen to your projector and have full 5.1 surround sound for phone calls in high definition and control it all with a Wiimote.

The Nokia N900 runs Maemo and is as powerful as the iphone, has a better camera, better battery, better sound, and better everything. I still don't get why people buy iPhones anyway. It has ever had half the features of other phones and costs twice the price. Apple's marketing machine, maybe?
