X server changes not saving.

I just installed Mint 17.3 and configured my display to the appropriate resolution but the changes keep reverting back to the default display properties. I'm using the Nvidia X Server Settings program to make the changes by navigating to "X Server Display Configuration" and choosing "Save to X Configuration File" to try and save the changes. Every so often (after game launch, restarting the computer etc..) X will revert back to the previous configuration and I have to reset the settings all over again. Is there a way to make the changes to the X Server more permanent? Thanks for any and all assistance

Code:
Specs:
Gateway GM5474
3.0GHZ AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
3.5GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 8500GT

You schould save into ~/.nvidia-settings-rc.

Eh, I wish I could have tried that but alas the person who I was helping to troubleshoot the problem decided to swap the monitor out for another. The other monitor (32" HDTV actually) doesn't actually have the same issue so there was no need to fiddle around with Nvidia settings excepting to slightly tweak the underscan option. It's strange though, both of these "monitors" are HDTVs of the same type, I wouldn't think that just swapping one for another would solve the issue of the video settings not being saved after shutdown.
