Why are w32codecs and flashplugin installed by default for linux mint 9?
What about those license? |
Short answer - no linux codec, and patent difficulties might arise if you wrote a gpl codec. There's a patent behind these file formats somewhere.
So linux guys use the windows codecs - no mean feat really. |
Or another (my) perspective. If you don't like it, don't use it.
Plenty of choice in distros out there. Or fork your own - everyone else seems to ... |
Mint also has a version that comes without any codecs installed if that's what you want.
