Why am I having persistent connection problems with Linux Mint

This is the newest version of set distro. I loose my internet connection for a few seconds and then I regain the connection just as fast. Seems to only happen with the newest versions of any .deb based distro. It happens all through my session until I finally got rid of it and installed OpenSuse. Is there a way to make my connection more stable?
