Which flavor of mint is what I would like

I am use to Ubuntu Unity or something that has the look and feel of a Macintosh.

Which flavor of Mint can folks recommend I try. I tried Cinammon, but it had too much of a MS Windows feel for me to like.

I am considering moving away from Ubuntu. Not because of the OS itself, but because of several personal negative experiences I had with moderators on their official support site - I'll leave it at that.

Now is a good time to go to Mint, as I'm sitting in front of a brand new computer.

Cairo Dock can be installed in almost any standard desktop environments: Unity, Gnome-Shell, Xfce, LXDE, KDE, Cinnamon, MATE, etc., and everywhere it will work without problems.
Prebuilt

but based on Ubuntu 15.10. Not Mint.

Hi Michael.

My suggestion would be to download all the ISOs, apart from Cinnamon which you have already tried, i.e. Xfce, KDE, MATE, and boot them one-by-one off a live usb stick to see what you think of them.

Me, I settled on KDE, because of its look rather than its usually-touted versatility (although that has proved to be a real bonus in several situations). Be warned however that KDE4, the version currently supported by Mint 17, is nearing the end of its officially supported life. Mint 18 may well be shipped with KDE5 (Plasma 5) which, among other aspects, has a new flatter look and is still quite buggy at the moment. So, as soon as you are getting used to one desktop with KDE, you may have to get used to another.

Thumbs up, by the way, for rokytnji's suggestion of using Cairo on whatever desktop you use. It's a great dock and I have a drop-down Cairo dock with all my GUI programs contained in category subdocks hidden at the top of my screen, only a mouse swoosh/click away.

I can't comment on the resemblance between Cinnamon and Windows because my usage of Windows ended a long, long time ago - but I favor the Cinnamon desktop for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is the Nemo file manager. That and Dolphin are the best ones IMHO.
The last time I looked at KDE I noticed that there are no tooltip popups when you hover on a Panel icon. That may be insignificant to some people, but that would be one more reason to chose Cinnamon, for me. And no description of the program you are chosing in the Main Menu, either...

Yeah, you and me both... and not just my experience, but the observation of how others are treated there.

Both of these are present on my Mint 17.3 KDE system. Both naturally depend on the application providing the information, and the Kickoff menu description is admittedly pretty terse (in grey under the name of the application itself), but more than sufficient for ordinary needs.

If you're going to slag off my favoured desktop environment, do it with up-to-date info, Mr. Longhorn.
