What part of Mint 13 Mate needs/uses the M$ Mono packages?

I just installed Mint 13 Mate and ran the updater. It had 300+ recommended updates so I did a select all and install. During the install of the updates I noticed that it was installing updates to M$ Mono packages/libraries. What part of Mate needs and/or uses the M$ Mono packages/libraries?

FYI, If doing a select all and install for the updates was a bad idea please explain what I could have done better.

Thanks.
