Trying to upgrade to Python 3.4.* in LMDE

Hi

I'm trying to use Kivy with Python 3 on my LMDE box. The current version of Python installed on there is 3.3.3. Unfortunately Kivy with Python 3 requires 3.4.

I tried compiling a local copy of Python 3.4 and using a virtual environment variable but then could not install a working version of pygame in the virtual environment.

Is there a straightforward way to get Python 3.4 onto my LMDE installation, without breaking other things so that I can then install pygame and the other dependencies for Kivy?

Cheers
Amos

Hi,

I don't have an LMDE box at hand right now, but python3-kivy is in Debian testing, so installing it should be no more difficult than
Code:
sudo apt-get install python3-kivy
(unless I'm missing something in regards to how LMDE uses Debian testing)

As LMDE doesn't directly follow Debian Testing and only has python 3.3 by default I had to add the debian testing repository to apt. Then install python3-kivy and the 215 other package updates (probably caused by upgrading python 3 to python 3.4). This also had the effect of removing KDE (or disabling it) I then installed kde-standard and all of its' supporting packages which re-enabled KDE for me.

I've now disabled the debian testing repository and hopefully everything will continue to work (although I shall probably have to re-enable it whenever I want to install/upgrade any python 3 packages).

Now to start testing/using Kivy. Any problems I'll let you know.
