Vino



Vino is the default VNC server in Ubuntu to share your existing desktop with other users. If you are using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron), you will probably need to install another server because of a known bug that stops Vino working for most people.



To configure vino from within GNOME, go to System > Preferences > Remote Desktop

      To set vino to request access each time, tick Allow other users to view your destkop in the Remote Desktop configuration window

    * There's no way to set vino to only listen for the next connection

      To set a password, tick Require the user to enter this password:, and enter a hard-to-guess password

    *



      To put vino in view-only mode, untick Allow other users to control your desktop

    *



      To only allow local connections, click on the tab marked Advanced, then tick Only allow local connections.

Is your firewall blocking connections?

Shouldn't be. I portforward some ports that I read on some website to open up. I don't remember what they are.

Hmmm - interesting thread - except that I'm trying to control my fiends M$ lappy with my Mint PC, or with Ubuntu, depending on which way I boot.

Still get the "can't connect error" though.

There's lots of net articles on controlling 'nix from a M$ system,
but not many for the other way...
Shouldn't make any difference though.
