No Java//

I'm running Mint 13 Maya, have removed Java 6.x, installed java 7, and icedtea, (not sure here, that all has been removed or reinstalled completely). Lots of question, what portions of the Java programs are absolutely necessary. No games played on this box.

Background is "White". Honestly, I don't know if it's Java settings or something else??

I think I should simply remove and reinstall the Java programs.

Help most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Please give us details... What program(s) are you trying to run? How are you running them? Do you get any errors?

rreply to "no java"

it's only FireFox, as far as I know, that's effected. I'm guessing, but because of the recent change to Java that effects Linux Mint 13, I jumped on that.

The background is missing, no colors, no indication as to the location of "entry" boxes. You know Name/address/phone, that sort of thing.

Have been into Synaptic Package Manager, and "removed" Java 6, but what about cleaning up any stray files. Also, believe that all I need is the jre..... files. Not interested in Java security problems.

Do I need Icedtea, or is that program adding to the confusion?

All ran well until about 10 to 14 days ago?? Hope I've answered your questions. Seems like I'm just adding to the confusion,. Thanks for your offer to assist.
