Mint freezes during loading

Hi,

Linux Mint 7 was working perfectly.
Then I had my motherboard replaced with exactly the same model: ASRock P4i65GV.
Now after Grub, as the OS is loading, it freezes before I get to the bit where I'm asked for my username.
Same with live CD.
No joy in compatibility mode either.
Downloaded and burned new live CD. Same thing.
Tried with Ubuntu live CD. exactly the same.
What can I do?
(Non technical language please?!)

Thanks.

I suspect either the replacement motherboard is faulty (you have run memory tests at least overnight 24 hours or more right!)
so give it a good lashing of tests, particluarly memory tests, and if you haven't already do a file system check at the command line using the recovery or repair or maintainance boot (whatever your distro calls it!).

ONLY after you have 100% discounted any h/w problems, then start looking at things like incompatable disk interfacing, or incorrect GRUB loading.
Would be a good idea to ckechout the GRUB information and see if you can isolate the issue.

Hope this assists.
Cheers. WP

Motherboard, memory and HD were well tested by the technicians who replaced the motherboard. Windows XP loads and works fine.

I would not know how to start looking at disc interfacing issues or grub problems. I am not a computer geek and haven't got the time to become one. I just want a user friendly system that works out of the box - that is why I was tempted by Linux Mint.

Looks like I'll be retreating to Windows.

Thanks anyway.

The Live CD of UBUNTU do have a option to test you're CD , did you use that option to be sure that you're CD is correct .
Even if md5chk is correct it does not mean that the burning process is Ok , that way that option is there.

I've checked my discs (OK) and used two different linux mint Cds and one ubuntu live Cd - same problem and no joy.
