Mint 18 MATE-Text has disappeared from Desktop icons

As per the title.

I am attaching a screenshot to illustrate the problem.

All my Desktop icons are functioning okay including Firefox, Thunderbird, LO Writer, Terminal etc.

It is just that I do not necessarily know which is which out of several LibreOffice Writer documents and other folders.

Normally there is a line of text beneath each icon.

I have installed Linux Mint 18 MATE on two laptops and they are both functioning perfectly, without this problem.

This is my main desktop PC, so it is a bit of a pain really.

I am pretty sure that the icons had text as usual just prior to me adding my second hard drive (drive2 for backup).

It is very puzzling but I am sure that there is a simple solution.

I am guessing that it is either related to mdm or X-Apps or MATE apps.

Any suggestions?

EDIT

Just solved it!

I decided to try changing the Desktop background and miraculously my icon text has now returned.

How weird.

Just adding a spurious comment to take it off unanswered status.

Glad you got the problem solved.
