Mint 15 using Ubuntu 12 installer
OK, I know when I'm beat. KDE/Qt is slicker than greased lighting... all hail the new world zeitgeist or whatever. So I d/l Mint KDE 15 and it bombed on my EFI laptop right at end of install. I remembered same behavior with Ubuntu 12 so popped Ubuntu 13.04 in and it split the Mint parition in half, installed grub on EFI boot and made an entry for both distros, how nice. :D
If the Mint guys want to get fancy they should borrow Mageia's fork of Mandriva's awesome hard-drake utilities. I believe they're written in Qt too. Bye bye Gnome, I barely gnew you... |

Looks like I'm running Mint with Ubuntu's kernel though -- which is fine but two different kernels would have been better -- so will need to learn this new grub2 EFI booshiat I suppose.. menu.lst was just too easy, like /dev/dvd and cd device names. I'm glad someone with authority to "push down" changes came along to make it human unreadable. 10-4 roger wilco tango lima. Mindless jargon makes me feel important. :rolleyes:

I noticed the 3.8 kernel is a few compile numbers before the one in Ubuntu 13.04 so I guess the core of Mint 15 is Ubuntu 12 not 13, which is fine with me. Ubuntu 12.04 was rock solid and I'd still be using it if the laptop it was installed on didn't overheat. That'll teach me for using it on a beach in Baja California (Mexico.) Best beaches on the planet... south France sux. :o

No it's not, as the kernel number proves. It might be based on an alpha or beta of Ubuntu 13 though.

Proves? LOL. Clem and the rest of the Mint developers have no reason to lie. Minor differences in the kernel version number happen. 3.8.0-26 isnt the original 13.04 kernel anyway...

Why wouldn't they have Ubuntu 13.05, 13.06, 13.07, 13.08 and 13.09 if these were real version numbers? I'm sure it's not cryptic code to make morons feel smart. There's now way .04 really means "long term stable" and .10 means "testing".
I'm glad Mint 15 is based off Ubuntu 12 instead of Ubuntu 13. The kernels since then have been buggy as hell, that's why i dumped Fedora 19.00.000. :D LOL |
Oh, and why would they tell the truth? Will Linus and Stallman show up at their door to write them a ticket? No penalties for lying and you might make money if you do... hmmm, no motive there. Maybe Bin Laden had a bad dream and decided to write an FAQ. That explains it! Larry Silverstein was telling the truth! :o
I'm sure parts of Mint 15 are based on Ubuntu's latest stable release but as the title of this thread implies, the installer definitely isn't one of them. Have you even installed Mint on a UEFI BIOS computer? That's my problem. |
