Mint 10 Compiz Flashes, No Go.

Hi, using Mint 10, gnome on a Dell pentium 4 laptop 1 GB RAM, with Intel graphics. Compiz will not start when applied. It reads that it cannot start compiz. I often have this problem, and ask how it is people can fire off a command line, is there an e-book?

Previous versions of Mint did compiz... is it worth re-installing Mint 5 or 7 and getting updates?

I rather like the cube for documents reading and writing.
