LinuxMint17 Add Epson Printer Driver

Hi

I am not having success in loading a new printer. Epson XP-420 Have been trying off and on for a few weeks.

Have loaded driver from here:
http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/se...h/searchModule

Sitting now in folder : Documents-Epson

Can this be loaded into 'Software Manager' and then installed via Software Manager ? The driver included in Linux17 only goes up to Epson XP-15
Or:
Also have used terminal to install using script from on line.

Which is the easiest way to install successfully ? Step by step.

Thanks

Charles Harris

Is the driver a *.ppd file? If so, you can install it from the CUPS "add printer" interface. Otherwise, please provide more specific information about the driver file.

There are drivers for a number of the XP-400 series models here. Though the XP-420 is conspicuous by its absence, perhaps one of the other driver there might help.

sswcharlie,

Welcome to LQ.

The first comment on here:

http://www.openprinting.org/printer/...413_415_Series

suggests that the XP-420 will also work using the XP-412/413/415 driver(s).

I am attaching a screenshot of the drivers listed for the XP-415.

Out of the 4 drivers listed, I don’t think you need the 3rd one down because the more recent generic driver should do the job.

NB In order to install these drivers, you need to install LSB package (version 3.2 or later) beforehand.

In Terminal:

Code:
sudo apt-get install lsb
This link for a XP-212 may also help:
http://tutorialforlinux.com/2016/03/...on-linux-mint/

Suggested order of installation:
lsb
InkJet Printer Driver (generic)
Mint Menu > All Applications > Printer > Configure Printer
c/o Configure Printer, Add printer (XP-415)
Printer Utility
Scanner Driver

Hi Beachboy2

Thanks for your post.

I have installed the lsb

Next sequence item is :

Inkjet printer driver (generic) - Is this the 3 out of 4 files in your attachment? Do I need all 3? Do I leave in Downloads or can I place in own folder eg Documents-Epson ?

then

Mint Menu > All Applications > Printer > Configure Printer
c/o Configure Printer, Add printer (XP-415) - When I do this there is no listing for any XP- series, including none for the XP-412/413/415 or the XP-420. ([probably because I have not downloaded from Epson, or should it be already there?

Hope not toooo many questions. Appreciate your help.

If you don't have gDebi installed already, open Terminal:

Code:
sudo apt-get install gdebi

You need to download:
1.the generic driver
2.the utility driver
3.the scanner driver

You use the gDebi package installer to deal with these downloaded drivers (see tutorial link forXP-212).

At the next screen, click on Install Package.
