I am surprised your Mint install has given you this much grief with sound. So I eat my popcorn and watch.

Did you do a md5sum?

aplay -L (notice the capital L) provides quite different output to aplay -l.
also we need info about that modem thingy, that's why a compplete lspci -k output.

if you pay as little attention to detail on your computer as you do here on the forums, i'm not surprised you can't get it fixed.

"if you pay as little attention to detail on your computer as you do here on the forums, i'm not surprised you can't get it fixed."

I guess that's the shortcomings that new people get caught up in. Rather than pointing fingers and launching an attack the correct response from an experienced user should have been "You should pay detailed attention to all Terminal Commands, using a lower case letter will have a different outcome for you. Since it is also clear to me, by how you ask your questions and how you respond to suggestions, I can tell that you are also new to the Linux language. If you take a command and type "man" before it you will get HELP on how the command will work and what sub options are available." Don't get me wrong I appreciate all the help from everybody. I am not looking for anyone to solve my no audio problem for me. I am just looking for some assistance from "experienced users" on the best solution.

I took another hard drive and installed only Linux Mint from the same iso file. Great success and everything worked OK even the audio. It's when I install the second operating language is when I get the problems. I follow the screen prompts and patrician the drive 50/50. Perhaps I should run the update command on each language, Mint and Ubuntu.
