Linux Mint - bad drivers
Hi!
[Sorry for my bad English] I'm a new Linux user. I installed the Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" - Cinnamon (64-bit). I can't change the monitor resolution, I don't have any sound etc... I guess the drivers are bad. My driver manager: http://imgur.com/ym0BUXG My computer: GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3P (rev. 1.0) GeForce GTX 770 My monitor's resolution is 1920x1080. I tried install the latest nvidia driver (352.55), but it was unsuccessful. Thanks jakabia |
Hi...
Welcome to the forum :) We'll need some more details to help you further. What error messages do you receive when try installing the Nvidia proprietary driver? Also, please open a terminal and post the output of... Code:
lspci -nnk Code:
lsmod |
I fixed the sound!
But the monitor's resolution it's bad still. lspci -nnk 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Did you get my post ?
---------- Post added 10-30-15 at 09:36 AM ---------- Oh, no. I have sound already. But my monitor is bad still. |
How can I send you what I got from these codes ?
|
|
Hi...
Thank you for the results but you didn't answer my first question. What error messages, if any, occur when you try to install the Nvidia driver from the Driver Manager? What happens, exactly? ;) Regards... |
I don't get any error messages. Just happen nothing.
|
So, just to be clear, selecting nvidia-340-updates and applying those settings doesn't get you anywhere? The second time you open the driver manager the active option is still reseted to the nouveau driver? And there is no displayed error in all this process?
|
I try again the nvidia-340-updates, but I think it's useless.
When I install the linux, automatic the nouveau driver is active. If I try install the latest driver (supposedly the 352.55) - nothing. It writes: I use own/hand driver, but I can't change the monitor's resolution. |
Okay, If I select nvidia-340-updates, I can choose:
1360x768 1152x864 1024x768 800x600 But no 1920x1080 ... :( |
Having the proper drivers for your graphic card and changing a monitor resolution are two different points... Let's fix them one by one since there is no way we can help you otherwise... uninstall 352 and pick one of those proprietary offered there (which are tested against those kernel and libraries) and then confirm you have those working... That way we know it's not the graphics card and it's your monitor... Sometimes a simple reboot (with the graphic drivers installed) can help (actually it's the restarting X part that helps)...
|
But on windows everything was good...
---------- Post added 10-30-15 at 05:46 PM ---------- 352 isn't on my computer. Now only the 340-updates. |
I tried every driver, all are bad.
|
Try running from a terminal:
Code:
nvidia-settings Btw, normally all this should have worked out of the box but in some rare cases the monitor's correct resolution isn't recognized... In all honesty, I've installed a lot (and I mean a lot) of Windows operating systems on different PCs and Windows it's not without it's own problems regarding the video drivers that can cause these same issue.. |
