Installing packages on LiveCD of Mint

Hello everybody.
When I run Linux Mint LiveCD on a machine with only NTFS on its HDD and install some packages with apt-get, the HDD indicator lights when packages are installing. But they are installing in RAM aren't they? So why does HDD works here? What does it do in that moment?

There is chance that haven't got right wiring for led lights, that hard drive is used as some swap.
Have you checked if anything changed on HDD? Otherwise there should be no worry.

Yes I've checked. No changes.
So it's an emulation of writing to HDD? But no real writing?

you'll find that it only writing some /tmp files to the hdd.
if you put a /swap on the hdd, then it'l use that too.
