Install MInt 6 or 7? Partitioning Issues.

After installing Windows XP I am going to either install Mint 6 or 7, the issue with me is which is better, and which will give me control over the partitions. I would like to know how to manually partition with Mint 6, because last time the partitioner left XP 3GB.

Mint 7 live CD didn't quite install LYX tight, with errors in download. Is this so with other users?

Upgrading Mint 6 was a big problem since this left Mint Installer crippled. If it happens again, how do I uninstall an upgrade?

What I did was with geparted I make free space for Mint 7
Get myself a good install media of Mint meaning I check the install media first.
And let Mint use the free space.
In my case it works perfectly
