Why? You can download it for free from the Mint website, and put it on a USB stick (or DVD if you want to) easily. And the latest version is 20, so why would you even want the older version??

cousinlucky 09-20-2020 03:53 PM

The computer that I am now using is so old ( like me ) that a DVD is the only way that I can get a 19.3 os. Yes I can do a download but my old computer can not put it on a DVD; so therefore I ask what I have asked.

Have you tried putting "linux mint dvd" into a search engine?

rtmistler 09-20-2020 04:48 PM

I concur with others, download the image and put it on suitable media you can use.

These days most systems I have do not contain a CD/DVD drive.

Sorry, no. Again, you can burn the ISO image to a USB thumb-drive easily, and use it for installation..there is zero reason to use a DVD. Covered several times in the Mint install docs, and easily found with a brief Google search:
https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=264560

And the "I'm so old" excuse won't get you much, so stop it please. You've done it in other threads as well; you are seemingly capable of using Linux, downloading things, etc., so that means you can also read and follow instructions. Lots of folks on this site are older as well.

frankbell 09-20-2020 08:43 PM

I concur with the others. If you have the capability of burning an optical disk on another machine, do that, then use it for the install.

Nevertheless, a web search for "linux mint dvd for sale" will turn up a number of likely-looking hits. What might complicate it is finding the precise release version you are looking for.

I cannot vouch for any of them, so I recommend that you vet them thoroughly.

My BIOS will boot from a floppy disc, then a cd or dvd, and then the hard drive. I have tried using Brassero to burn a DVD in every setting but the most I get is the Mint image and then blurry lines.

How about you give the specs for this computer? People can advise what distros would run best, including any of the versions of Mint.

EdGr 09-20-2020 09:09 PM

cousinlucky - your computer is almost certainly 32-bit. Mint 20 is 64-bit only.

You need to find a distro that still supports 32-bit machines.

Thank you for the link. I will have to use someone else's computer because orders i place are rejected or firefox crashes before I can make the order.

If it is able to boot from a floppy disc, you will need the 32bit version of mint mate.

What "orders"?? That is a Mint forum article on how to put the Mint ISO onto a thumbdrive. All the tools mentioned are free. Nothing on there is 'for order'.

I'm fairly sure the OP meant to quote post #7 directly below yours, pressed the wrong button, and didn't pay attention to the text being quoted.

Perhaps, but wouldn't this be a lot easier with a statement of the computer specs?

pan64 09-21-2020 08:19 AM

I know it is completely offtopic here, but:

To be precise, installation was not requested in the original post. So [most probably] the DVD is already made, problem solved.
From the other hand this thread is the "usual" xy problem, where we have had no any idea about the real issue but happily solved a different and irrelevant one.

so this is the url to the the 32bit ISO: https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=273

Yes, but the OP may not know the specs. It is a fairly safe assumption that a computer with a floppy disk drive is 32-bit.

win xp 64bit was released in 2005 and the 64bit system itself is even older.

rtmistler 09-21-2020 01:28 PM

Yes, the word floppy makes it sound old, however people can use differing terminology and if the OP can't look up the system specs, or follow some recommendations from people here as to how to gain that information, such as using the Windows Control Panel System information, or something similar, or inspect the computer, then there's sort of very little where we can help them.

I know also a bit off topic, but the permeation of viruses and etc in their threads, coupled with this request which dances about that by way of omission, concerns me. It sort of seems clear that they want to purchase a pre-made DVD because of these malware/virus concerns from other threads.

So, some here are citing that you can download and make media, you also can make varied media, such as USB, CD, or DVD, or other flash card (uSD, Compact Flash, etc), and I concur. So I'm approaching this from the perspective as to how engaged the OP is here to solve this versus persist with something like an incremental question, along similar lines tied to their other threads.

Directly on topic, thanks pan64 for citing a link.

Given that, I'd like to hear from the OP if they know their system specifications or if they need help to find that out so that people can give a fully applicable answer, as in which product specifically to purchase.

"Concerns" being the operative term, I believe, but that's neither here nor there. If the OP (from their other threads) is already considering purchasing a new motherboard, and has issues with following the fairly simple instructions needed to burn an ISO to a USB stick, I'd suggest a different purchase. And that would be a Chromebook....probably about the same price as a decent motherboard, no installation needed, an OS that's fairly 'locked down', and will probably do what the OP is after: email and web.

Just not sure based on their posts that any OS that requires installation/tinkering is a good fit.
