I got my disk Linux V2 cinnamon yesterday and have been trying to install it without success. I set 2 pc's to load up from cd drive (D) and tried, no luck. even on reboot I explored the disk and there is no exe file to run it. What can I do to install this please? Could you please email your reply to: jacdes@rogers.com
Thank you.
ps, It is impossible to contact osDisk.com as their address rejects all my mails.

What do you mean by "Linux V2 cinnamon"? You're posting under the Mint forums so can we safely assume that is what you are using? You bought the disk from OSDisc online, is that correct? You should see a screen which says Linux Mint while booting. What do you see when you do this? Do you see any messages on screen after the Mint logo? Is it a CD or DVD as current versions of Mint are too large to fit on a CD?

Linux is an operating system, not an application and the ".exe" extension is only used on windows.

@yancek - Linux Mint 17 has a v2 version. Issued about 4 months ago to update the original Mint 17 version.

@Jacwues 22 - You have to burn the .iso file to a DVD with a CD/DVD burner. Which burner you use depends on the operating system you have.
Windows 7 would use the "Windows Disc Image Burner"
You would then boot the DVD using the computer's Boot Menu or BIOS. The DVD contains a complete operating system, and you will find the installation program launcher on the Desktop.

Linux Mint 17 V2 Cinnamon Disk

My computers are less than 2 yrs old. Desktop is Windows 7 and laptop is Windows 8.1
I received my disk fro osDisk.com and cannot install it at all. I've tried the boot up procedure and the reboot on both machines with no success. Can you please advise me. osDisk.com has no working email address, the one provided doesn't work and there is no phone number provided. I liked it better when I could pay and download directly from Linux
Thank you.

there would not be !!!
linux is NOT windows
linux, apple, ibm ,sun do NOT use Microsoft windows "*.exe" programs
.exe files are FOR ONLY Microsoft Windows Operating systems

win8 might be a issue if secure boot is being used
the win7 computer should boot if the bios is set to boot from dvd drive BEFORE the harddrive

a normal GOOD setup SHOULD be
check dvd FIRST
then USB
then last the hard drive

that way even on a windows machine you can pop in the windows install dvd and REPAIR the OS

Jacques 22 11-10-2014 04:46 PM

Thank you John VV, i have removed it and won,t do that again. My win 7 has booot up set to dvd first but still won,t boot up. My win 8.1 laptop still refuses to boot. I wonder if there is a location on the disk that I could use To begin the install?

yancek 11-10-2014 07:04 PM

If you have the DVD drive set to first boot priority in the BIOS and reboot the machine with the Mint disk in the drive it should boot. If it doesn't then either the DVD is bad or your DVD drive is. Check the connections on the drive. Do other DVDs work while in windows?

to clear up any issues
http://cinnamon.linuxmint.com/
http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=158

this is what you ordered
and had a dvd mailed to you

this will not install but just a check

with win7 running pop in the dvd
and look at the folder it makes

it should look something like MY OpenSUSE 13.2 install dvd
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...1&d=1415668886

if it only has one file ending in .ISO , there is a problem

depending on the hardware and manufacture this might be any button

BUT
during the boot of windows7 there WILL be a small and very short lasting message about hitting f2 for the bios or f12 for the menu
OR if not

hit the <f8> every 1/2 second during the EARLY boot and something should pop up

DISABLE SECURE BOOT
this is the Microsoft's REINTERPRETATION of something good
and created a " Frankenstein's MONSTER " of an abomination

you will have to turn it back on to boot windows

turn it off
make sure that boot from dvd is before the hard drive
leave the linux install dvd in the drive
reboot

the install window should show up

When you are dealing with these two computers, you have to be aware of the distinction between a UEFI machine and a non-UEFI (legacy/CSM) machine.

Hi John VV

I have done all that you suggested. My cd player works fine, I have set both machines to boot up off of dvd and still no success. I wish I could contact osdisk.com but it is impossible as their email addy doesn't work and there is no phone number. I guess that I have a faulty disk. BTW it only has 1 iso file. I think I have wasted my money and I won't buy from them again.

So if you put this DVD in your drive when you are booted into windows, you see only one file with an iso extension, like "linuxmint.iso"? You could actually boot that if you had Grub2 installed to boot one of your machines. I'm surprised as usually you will see a number of directories/files when you do that. Not sure what's up with that. If it is an iso file you could still burn it as an image to a DVD, I assume it is too large for a CD? If you don't have 2 DVD drives, you could copy it to your hard drive and then burn it as an image to a DVD. Might be easeir just to download from the Mint site and burn to a DVD or put it on a flash drive.

John VV 11-13-2014 02:42 PM

well the people you bought that dvd from #$HJDY&(*SGT&E@#* KJH you
you will need to copy the iso image to your windows drive and BURN AS IMAGE a NEW install dvd

just copy it to the c drive

BUT and this is the part you need to take care on
converting that iso to a install dvd

i like the FREE software "CDburerXP"
yes the name sounds "fishy" but it is a REAL program
it is a windows build of linux software using "CygWin "

i have used it for many years
https://cdburnerxp.se/en/home
i know for a fact it runs on win7 64 bit

burn a NEW dvd and make sure you use the " burn as image" setting

then when you look at the disk it will have many folders and some files
-- like the screenshot i posted above ---

PS win7 "should" have the ability built in to "burn a iso as a image

xp and vista DID NOT
so you might not need to use CDBurnerXP
but again i know that that works
