If you know the name of the file(s) needed,
then use Synaptic to install them.
I've had to do this, on occasion.

apt-get search packagename
Or apt-get install apt-file
then run apt-file update as user not root
then you can do apt-file search filename
It is best to stick with the packages in the repositories.

Probably not ?
apt-cache search <name> ( or part of name )
will work in Mint.
