Hello, Malformed entry error

I was installing the Signal program when my installation was interupted. Since then I receive a Malformed entry 1 in list file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list (Component)
The list of sources could not be read.

I cannot update programs such as Zoom etc. Can anyone speak to this issue or do I have to reinstall Linux Mint

You can probably fix this problem by editing the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list. Could you post a listing of that file so we can determine what is wrong with it.

That indicates you are using a Linux Mint version which is based on Ubuntu 16.04. Support for it ended almost two years ago and the repositories for it are no longer available. You may be able to find them with an online search for archive repositories Ubuntu Xenial or similar. Might be best to install a currently supported version of Mint.

Thank you jailbait for your response. Its been a long wile since I used Linux but I was able to remove the file that was causing the issue.

Thank you YancekI am interested in upgrading the linux on my system. Is there an informational web site with instructions and recommendations for this procedure?

daleneroot,

Backup all your personal data
to an external drive and then do a fresh installation of Linux Mint 21.1:
