Firefox crashes loading Facebook or opening email in gmail

Just installed the 64 bit version of Linux Mint on my Asus K601 laptop. I am having my usual problems with firefox (64 bit) crashing on some web sites. Version 7.0.1 crashes trying to load facebook and when opening an email in gmail. It also crashes on various other sites. The last time I had this problem, I went back to the 32 bit version of the distro (ubuntu 10.04) and the problems went away. Opera and Chromium have not had a problem thus far. I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem and if there is a solution.

I can always use Opera, not a big fan of Chromium. But, I have grown accustomed to firefox and would like to stay with it if possible.

I had some similar problems a while ago that was caused by flash. As far as I remember the solution was to throw away FF and the invisible directory in the home directory and then reinstall FF. After that the problems were gone.

Hope this helps...

Which version of flash are you using? I'm using FF-7.01 with the libflash.so file extracted from flashplayer11_rc1_install_lin_64_090611.tar.gz (I just deleted the other files in the tarball) on Fedora 16 with no problems.

Thank you for the replies. I hadn't tried deleting the hidden directory. Since I keep my /home on a separate partition, it still has the items left from before the install. I'll try that first and then take a look at which version of flash is loaded.

This is a fresh install LM 11, so I am not sure what the latest versions are on everything.
