Firefox continues to crash
I keep having the problem of Firefox crashing. When I type in about:crash It always give the reason for crash as: SIGSEGV Can anyone tell me what is causing the crashes and how to cure the problem.
Mint version ,
Firefox version ..
Some background info on that error
First thing to try is memtest, you may get the option when you boot up (in grub menu )
You may have bad memory, so rule that out first ..
If you get memtest errors , try removing 'sticks' and see if things improve, I.e. re-run nemtest
Search for memtest86+ if you get stuck..
if mem seems ok, come back with the version info, plus anything else you may think of..
What version of Filefox, and is this the only program that crashes ? How many extensions do you have installed ? Flash player ? Java ? When does it crash ? specific site ?
Thank you for your reply. This seems to make sense. I was thinking possibly I had a bad video card. But the idea of having bad memory sounds more reasonable. I did a fresh install about a month ago. Thinking I may have had a virus or something. However that did not help. Prior to the fresh install I also had Chrome and Opera and they would crash too. Since the new install I have something wrong with the OS that wont let me use synaptic or software manager. I think it had something to do with dpkg. I really don't know how to run the memtest and the other things you suggested. Is it possible to help walk me through it. I really appreciate your help.
try turning off the PC/Laptop...
then turn on, you may see memtest listed in the grub menu.
Probably the easiest way is to download an iso version, and 'burn' to disk, then boot from that.
Edit:, and yes .. it could be video card.
If mem is ok, pay attention to what metaschima is asking
