firefox 31.0~linuxmint is NOT to configure anymore

Hi Linuxquestions,
I'm running linux mint cinnamon at an intel NUC.

Had the problem that Character encoding was at Western and could not be changed to Auto-detect.

So I uninstalled Firefox with Synaptic package manager for complete removal as well the british language pack.

After the removal with Synaptic I deleted in /etc every folder (3) named firefox.

than I removed every folder in usr/share named firefox.

After reboot I did apt-get autoremove in a Terminal.

Than I reinstalled firefox, and everything was the very same as before, even the bookmarks and the Home Page Setting, as well as all the saved password had been usable as well.

Now my question: what do I have to do additional to get a fresh Firefox in Linux mint ?

Hi

Firefox stores the config in ~/.mozilla so I don't think reinstalling it will help. To get rid of config for regular packages you can do:

Code:
apt-get --purge remove firefox
apt-get install firefox
But I don't think this will remove the config in your home directory.

even when you use --purge, you still have to manually remove config files.
in this case, it should be the complete $HOME/.mozilla/firefox folder.

i'm not quite sure what your actual problem is and if that will solve it.

btw, i've never seen firefox folders in /etc.

to create a new ~/.mozilla/firefox/something profile directory, Close firefox and open a terminal and run
Code:
firefox -ProfileManager
BEFORE you remove your ~/.mozilla directory (this holds the FF configuration schema)
If the issue resolved with a new profile, then it is simply a matter of removing the first one that is causing grief.

If the issue is not resolved by a new profile, then it may be something else and I would continue the investigation.

Thanks for looking after me,
and I now I'm confused about ondoho's information he never saw a a firfox folder in /etc

I'm sure I deleted a firefox, a firefox 3.0 and a firefox 3.5 folder in /etc

and now after the reinstallation there are definitely no more firefox entries in /etc

hmmm.

will go on now with the recommended actions.

Thanks to everybody looking after me.

.mozilla is a hidden directory under /home.
You can unhide after opening file manager & either selecting "View>>Show Hidden"
Or
Pressing Ctrl+h

Was able to remove all the profile settings and reinstall firefox.
Now firefox is displaying thee charsets properly again :-)
problem solved :-)

Now my 2nd question, is it something I should investigate about the 3 firefox folders in /etc
I mentioned in my last Post ?

because ondoho mentioned he never saw this, and after a clean reinstallation I do not have this folders anymore.

I did not created this folders and firefox is not doing this as well during installation, so where did they come from ?

As well after I did firefox -ProfileManager in terminal this message appeared:
(process:5972): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed

Anything serious, or can I forget about ?

If you have synaptic you can check to see what files are installed by firefox
Just right-click on firefix>>Properties>>Installed files
