compaq presario V5000 touch pad is messed up
 

running linux mint 12 on a compaq presario V5000 when i move the touch pad it just randomly jumps around if not does nothing i just installed mint 12 and am clueless on how to use the console so please be specific on your instructions

Does it happen only under linux? If not, silly as it may seem but, is the touchpad clean? We may not realize by just looking. Trying cleaning. It happens to me at times as my desktop is also my dinner table :-p

No it is clean and worked perfect on win 7 and xp

I had the same problem when I upgraded my compaq v5000 to the linux kernel version 3. I downgraded it to linux kernel verison 2.36 and everthing was fine again.

This means there is a bug in the linux kernel that breaks things. Downgrade the kernel to version 2 for now, that should fix it.
