Charset issues after a fresh Mint 9 LXDE pt_BR install

After a fresh install of Mint 9 LXDE, setup for pt_BR (Brazilian Portuguese), the text in some places are not displaying correctly.

For screenshots of the problem:

It occurs in the (only) two machines where I've installed it (with completely different hardware in each...). I can fix it?

no: this happens in pt_BR but not in en, AFAIK - but only in PCManFM windows (the issue is with pcmanfm2 package, I think...).
